INDIA'S FIRST
TRADE MART FOR COTTAGE AND HANDICRAFTS SECTOR IS GOING TO BE SET UP AT GRATER NOIDA.
25 ACRES OF LAND HAS ACQUIRED FOR THIS PURPOSE AT GREATER NOIDA. THE PROJECT WILL BE STATE OF THE ART.

| Handicraft is a labour intensive
industry with high potential of employment for poorer section of the society in
rural areas. It is economically important because of low capital investment, high value addition, negligible import content and high potential for export earnings. According to the provisional data available, export of handicrafts excluding hand knotted carpets performed well during April-March '98-99. The export increased from Rs. 4353.18 crore in April- March '97-98 to Rs.5058.40 crores during the same period in April-March '98-99 recording an increase of 16.20% in rupee terms. In Dollar terms export increase from 1195.92 million US$ in April- March '97-98 to **204.51 million Us$ in
April-March '98-99 recording an increase of 2.65%. |

| The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts is an apex body working under Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India for the promotion of the exports of handicrafts from the country is planning to set up a Trade Mart at Greater Noida for the cottage sector viz. handicrafts, handlooms, carpet and jute etc.
India has a vast production base for handicrafts (including carpets),
handlooms, jute and other gift-ware. The growth in these sector has been phenomenon in terms of employment and foreign exchange earnings. |

| The opportunities for the international marketing of these products is not adequately available to Indian
manufacturers, exporters due to higher marketing cost involved for introduction of new product in the foreign market and excessive high cost of participation in an international fair abroad. It has also been observed that these events give opportunity to only a handful of exporters who also have to spare
substantial foreign exchange. |

| In view of the above constraints and to set up measures to provide quantum jump in the exports of the cottage
sector, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts at the instance of Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India has planned to set India's 1st Trade Mart on the pattern of Shanghai Mart and other International Mart. The entire ************* permanent contact ****
throughout the year reliable supply, quick turnover, capacity to absorb new technologies and design and round the clock international marketing. |

| The Mart will house
Exposition Area Mart Area Resource Centre and latest IT facilities. The
Council has already conducted a pre-feasibility study of the proposed Trade Mart. A land of 25 Acres has been allocated by the
Government of Uttar Pradesh at Greater Noida for setting up of this prestigious State of the Art project |
