IN GREATER NOIDA
|
|
New
Delhi, 13 November 2000... The Toy City at Ecotech Greater
Noida is in line with the cluster approach, which has
been followed by GNIDA in promoting medium and
small-scale industries in the area. The proposed toy city will
be spread over an area of 125 acres which will house an R
& D centre for toys, a state-of-the-art quality control
centre to check the safety of the toys, a toy liberty and
training centres for people working in the Toy City.
Institutional Area of the Toy City, which has been allocated
an area of 5 acres will house Asia's first Toy design
institute along with a technical training institute, a
research centre, a liberty and a toy museum. Type of toys to
me made in the Toy City include Soft Toys, Mould and plastic
Educational Toys, Battery Operated Electronic Toys, Dolls and
Wooden Toys.
"The proposed International Toy Designing Development
Institute will be the first of its kind of its kind in Asia
and only the second in the world. The only other such
institute was set up in Spain a couple of years ago" Said
Mr. Brijesh Kumar , CEO, GNIDA.
National Programme for Development of Toy Industry (NPDTI),
which commenced on 21 September 2000, is a multi-pronged
initiative estimated to cost $2.2 million, the aim of which is
to develop the indigenous toy industry in the next two years.
The NPDTI is a joint programme launched by the Development
Commissioner, Ministry of SSI and ARI (contribution $ 1.25 m),
Toy Association of India (0.10m), SIDBI (0.25m) and UNIDO
(0.25m) at Greater Noida, aimed at technical upgradation,
market development and the establishment of the Toy Design and
Development Institute.
The Toy City will provide a link between the industry and the
market. The institute will basically be involved in designing
and creating toys as per market trends. These design will be
passed on to manufacturers, who will have their units in the
same vicinity.
122 Toy manufacturers have already invested to the tune of
Rs.400 crores. Most Toy manufacturers are in small and
unorganised sector who in turn sell the toys to big traders
who market these toys. Currently there are around 800
manufacturers in the small sector spread across the country,
with a turnover not over $2.5 billion.
"It's a huge market. The total world trade in toys is
projected to be approximately IS$ 150 billion by 2005.
Currently the market is dominated by China, Taiwan, South
Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand. The proposed toy city, coming
up with the NPDTI will give the much needed boost to the
Indian Industry," he said.
The Toy City at Greater Noida has a total area of 125 acres
with plot size of 1000 sqm, and 4000sqm.
